Speed Trap at Interstate 95 North, Kittery, ME
- Kittery, ME
-
2
- Latitude: 43.0928
- Longitude: -70.766
- Description: The speed limit for the first few miles after crossing the bridge on I95 from NH to Maine are 55mph which is well below normal (safe) traffic speed (especially as you are carrying speed after going down the other side of the bridge) The Maine Troopers appear to run at least a monthly sting here where they waste countless tax dollars by hiding 5 cruisers out of sight on an exit ramp. One trooper runs the radar it seems and then they dispatch the hidden cruisers. I have counted up to 8 Cruisers involved in this program before and no doubt they run this up and down 95 regularly from Kittery to Portland. I have yet to be involved in it, but always think it is "A wonderful welcome" to tourists visiting the so called Vacationland I call home. Stick to 65mph for a few miles once you hit the top of the bridge until you are 5 miles up the road to be safe.

There are usually coordinated speed traps along Route 1 to catch vacationers trying to get around the Toll Booth traffic.

I commute south from Maine to NH everyday and have noted that the northbound "sting" is only staged during the mornings on weekdays. The radar gunner is always either on the bridge beyond the Maine welcome sign, or in an innocuous vehicle (a minivan usually) right before the sign. When you cross the bridge, drop to 55 mph. Watch out!
