Speed Trap at State Highway 26, Beaverton, OR
- Beaverton, OR
-
0
- Latitude: 45.5184
- Longitude: -122.805
- Description: Beaverton P.D. have 2 new Dodge Magnum's; they're being used by the Traffic Unit for chasing speeders.
**New Tactic**
The Magnum is parked along Hwy 26 (westbound)--from a distance it looks like another broken down car--there are motorcycle officers (as many as 5) parked in front of the Magnum. It's practically impossible to make out their helmets as the background wall is also white.

I live off the Cedar Hills exit and this trap is set up regularly. They make it very difficult to get onto 26WB from Cedar Hills Blvd since everyone is seeing the officers and hitting the breaks just as you are looking back to find an opening to merge. I've almost been killed three separate times. I hope the city gets sued when the officers get someone hurt there.

I know this to be true too. Just as you start down the hill towards the murray exit you will notice a couple signs or markers with reflective material on them so it is hard to distinguish those from actual vehicles sitting in the little open shoulder area. The officers can snag your speed as far away as the very top of the that hill. Be very careful here!

I don't believe I have ever seen them parked on US Hwy 26..Must be a Portland PB van..

The description of this speed trap is very accurate. I drive this route every day and the police on the side of the road are hard to see (see reasons above) and its very easy to build speed up on this long downhill slope. Just make sure that someone near you is going significantly faster than you.

Single MC cop w/laser on Wbound median shoulder midday. For the uninitiated, it looks like you're in the country after driving up over the hill from Portland/Hwy 217, but you're still in the Beaverton city limits & the whole dang road is 55 mph.

Just for clarification, they're Dodge Chargers - the sedan version of the Magnum.

In addition, the motorcycle cops hang out on the median just where the center barrier ends. You are at a height advantage just before approaching this trap, so scan ahead for the inevitable flurry of brake lights, as those ahead of you try to slow down.
