Description: Police pull into the parking lot of the Bi-Lo shopping center and sit among parked cars, just past the Hardees. This is a major artery to Charleston and carries a lot of big truck traffic...they love to pull these guys over...you can see them on the raod

    Believe it or not, this trap used to be even worse than it is now. After the eastern end of 78 through Denmark was widened several years ago, a 30 mph speed limit was mistankenly posted over the entire thing - even though this type of cross section should have a higher limit. The DOT has now corrected the problem, posting a 45 mph limit on the five lane section - but still use caution when it drops to 30 near the center of town (where the road narrows heading west). There aren't dedicated turn lanes near the traffic signal, so through traffic should keep right to avoid being stuck behind a turning vehicle.

    All of the small towns on Hwy 78 are dangerous! The cops will also lay in wait outside of town and follow you in when it is dusk with just their parking lights on so you can't tell it's a cop car!

    Yup. I got nailed there back in 1994. Never did see the sign. I used to go to S. C. a lot and spent a lot of money there. Haven't been back since. I hope it was worth it to them.
