Latitude: 38.519
Longitude: -81.3574
Description: Clendenin is a sleepy little town in Kanawha County with high enforcement. If you are traveling Interstate 79 South your best bet is to go to the next exit which is Elkview, for fuel, food, lodging, etc. If you are going north on Interstate 79 do not take the Clendenin exit if at all possible. Keep going to the next available exits to avoid the Clendenin police. If you choose to take the Clendenin exit, remember you are doing so at your own risk.

I have relatives in Clendenin, and I try and visit at least once weekly. I have never had any problem with the Police in Clendenin. All a person has to do is obey the speed limits, duh!!

I agree. Clendenin cops will pull you over in a split second. They waited on me to leave a grocery store then turn onto 119 before they pulled me over across from the bank. They two guys were really nice to my little boy and myself. I was nervous and I think they could tell wasn't a criminal lol just had dead tags. But he told me he had to wait till I pulled out onto the road before he could pull me over. I thought that was interesting enough. He check my insurance and sent me and my son on our way. They are just doing their jobs. The town is so small you shouldn't be speeding anyway.

I live in Clendenin and we have a couple of cops, but they aren't waiting for you, they are looking for law breakers............ Don't push the speed limit, they won't ticket you.

I live nearby and avoid going into town at ALL costs. If I have to shop I go to Elkview! A word to the wise...

I live in another county, but dread visiting family in Clendenin. I have personally faced a cop with a radar gun at the Rite Aid, and I've watched them waiting in the Kroger lot. I try to follow the rules and limits, but it is nerve-racking knowing how gung-ho the cops are.•

The first comment must be from one of the cops. I agree with the second definately. The cops here love to harrass people passing through. My family has been stopped numerous times and got flashlights shined in our faces for no reason and its usually on our way home from church. One time they questioned if the kids in my car were mine?! They are a joke. Right before the Rite Aid the limit drops from 45 to 25. U have to literally slam on your brakes to make it. They love sitting in a Christian center parking lot before the Rite Aid and get you.

I don't know who made the reply but there are only 3 cops and they Do have radar. It's against state law for them to use it (town has too small population to use it according to state law) but that does not stop them. If they stop me they have a lawsuit on their hands. One of the cops must have written the above reply. Again, they Do have radar (illegal radar), they do use it and they do write tickets. Look at the list published in the paper if you doubt.

This is pretty harsh for a town with only 3 cops and no radar. There hasn't been a speeding ticket written here in over a year!
