Longitude: -79.87
Description: The police cars sit along the river. The speed limit constantly changes so it's difficult to get used to. This town is one of the most notorious speed traps in the area and the police are very aggressive. I requested a hearing at the magistrates office and everyone in there had the same speed of 42 mph written on their citations. Sounds a little fishy. Best to avoid the North Belle Vernon area if at all possible.

FYI: The area in question is the I-70 bridge between Speers/Charleroi and Belle Vernon Borough. NOTE: The bridge goes from Washington to Westmoreland county. No where are you ever in Fayette county -- just "over" it via 906. A old favorite is for BV Borough (Fayette Co.) police to sit on the Washington Co. side by the onramp and use vascar to time you over the bridge, never passing into Fayette Co., then puling you over in Westmoreland Co. - All out of their jurisdiction! A former N.Belle Vernon cop told me once that NBV had maybe 60 speeding citations in a year [est. 2003] while Belle Vernon Borough had over 1200 speeding citations on I-70. Belle Vernon Borough (now Southwest Regional) police still get away with too many citations... In most cases, you can plead it down to 5mph over the limit (50 in a 45) and not get any PA "points".

Actually, this is Belle Vernon Boro, Fayette County - Southwest Regional Police Dept. (trying to make a name for themselves) --- "Not" NBVPD...
